Communication and Economics: between teaching and research

In 2001 was born in Reggio Emilia, a new cultural project with the aim of integrating both in teaching and in research, multidisciplinary skills for the study and teaching of issues related to communication, economics and business management. Participating in this proposal professors and researchers mainly from the Faculty of Humanities and Economics, University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. They are soon joined by new scholars from other Italian universities and, albeit to a more limited extent, the non-academic world. This project takes shape and matures in an institutional context of great change: the Berlinguer reform of 1999, enacted in 2004 by project Moratti and the recent 2010 by the Gelmini law. Are all these regulatory choices animated, at least in words, the desire to place the Italian university in its own right in Europe, re-activity is by improving the quality of teaching is research to ensure future generations solid skills and appropriate professional .
In this framework, the Department of Communication and Economics engages in the design of a training innovation in content and start with a process of integration challenging, new and independent lines of research. Today, with the reform of governance is complete, the Department of Communication and Economics offers two Bachelor programs and three master's degree courses, gathers more than 800 new students per year for a total of more than 2000 members and involves 42 teachers and researchers in teaching and research, with expertise in the disciplines of psychology, sociology, management and business organization, history, mathematics, statistics, finance and so on.

The research and development of innovation

The research activities of professors and researchers uses over the years of important contributions to national and international economies. In 2002 began the activities of the European project ISCOM, coordinated by prof. David Avra Lane in 2004 and the prof. Andrea Ginzburg wins major funding for the project Cetra - Complexity Education For Trainers, started within the European program Leonardo da Vinci. the Department exceeds the selections of ministerial announcements for projects of national interest and gets the national coordination or operational unit in the years 2003, 2005, 2006, 2008 and 2009 with Prof. Arrigo Bonisoli, Prof. Nicoletta Cavazza, the Professor Esposito, Dr. Gabrielli, prof. Lane, prof. Rubichi and Prof. Voltolini. In 2011 Prof.. Giardina wins FIRB young "Stochastic processes in interacting particle systems: duality, metastability and their applications." E 'of 2009 a further important financing the project Bemosa coming from the European Union, which is responsible for the dr. Mariani. Next to the gathering competitive funding the Department initiates collaborations with the local entrepreneurial and institutional development of specific applied research projects. You are to respond effectively to the demands and proposals of the territory, several laboratories for experimental activities: Attention and Perception, Marketing and Research Lab, Juno, Opera and Relab TV. Thanks to the efforts of professors and researchers from the departmental budget grows over time and is established in 2011, around one million euro.
In 2011, the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia defines its strategic lines of research. On this occasion, professors and researchers of the Department of Communication and Economics outlining their interests and identify prevalent themes expressing a signal consisting of the process of integration of multi-disciplinary expertise: Media Communication and Social Media; Internal and External Communication for Firm Innovation and Competitiveness; Innovation and Sustainability; Strategy, Governance and Managerial Behaviour; Financial Decisions of Firms and Households and Intermediaries' Behaviour; Basic and Applied Human Cognition; Statistical Mechanics of Social and Biological Systems.
